I'd like to add another "Amen!" to the Debian chorus. I've been running Debian for years. Like Loren, I run it as a server rather than a desktop. The package management system is second to none. Ironically, I think Debian is the least Java friendly distributions because they're a bit dogmatic with regards to Free (as in speech) versus Free (as in beer). As such, the Sun JDK is not part of the package management system. All the free (as in speech) Java alternatives they do include [kaffe, gij, ...] are inferior to the real JDK from Sun. The Sun JDK is easy enough to download and works out of the box. -- Cheers, Eric Bardes |
