Hi Greg,

Dale (who was going to do the Squeezebox piece) is no longer in town. The homepod stuff is pretty straightforward. As an MP3 device, I think the Squeezebox had an advantage in terms of functionality at this point, but then again, I got mine from pcmall.com for $145 and another on ebay for $60. So I have 2 units for less than the cost of 1 squeezebox.

That being said though, my nephew has 2 squeezebox's and really likes them a lot.

I thought more people would extend the functionality of the homepod, I think there are a lot of splintered efforts. I need to start an open source project to add functionality to the homepod.

I can bring one in, show how it works and talk about it a bit. I could do it on 7/18 if nothing else is scheduled.

Hey, is this topic dead or is it still planned for the future? I would really like to see one or both of these devices (SqueezeBox/SqueezeBox2 and Homepod) discussed and demonstrated at a future CinJUG.

I just spoke to Dale. Dec 20th is a OK.

As background, Chris and I were talking about PVRs and I mentioned that I was streaming audio through the house using the Homepod and I asked him if he heard of the Squeezebox. Since Chris hadn't seen it, I wondered how many others hadn't seen it. Since the Homepod runs Java (IBM's J9) and uses Java to talk to a server that serves up music (Firmware and Gloo and Application are all open source) and the emulator for the Squeezebox (for plugin development) runs on Java and since Christmas/Hannukah are right around the corner, the idea was born.

Can you respond to the group if you would plan on coming?

Brian

You're on! The meeing would fall on the 20th for
December. Often we skip December cuz of the holidays
and what not, but I'll be in town if we do wanna meet.
What does the group think? Yeah or nay on a December
meeting?

Either way, this sounds like a fun topic for the next
meeting, whether that be Dec. or Jan.

Chris (again), nice talk. Dale Martin and I talked
about doing a pitch on MP3 players and Java. He's purchased the
Squeezebox. I've purchased the Homepod.

We could dub it -- what to do w/ your Christmas $.

What do you think?

Brian
