Guys,

Here's a message from a JBoss guy asking about topics
we would like them to present on. It sounds like he
wants to cover some JBoss business stuff, which I
tried to discourage, but the technical topics sound
interesting. Which topics would you guys want most?

Note: forwarded message attached.

Hey Chris,

What topics would you all like to hear about in regard to JBoss?  We
have a variety of products including the app server, jBPM (workflow
engine), JBoss Portal, Caching, Clustering, JGroups, Aspect-Oriented
Programming, Hibernate, and JBoss IDE.  If there has been some buzz in
the group regarding anyone of these products or about open source in
general, it would help us put together something of interest.

Thanks.

Seth

Not yet.  Can you give me more details on what you would be covering to
send to our membership list?

Hey Chris,

Do you have anyone planned to present on April 18th?  I may be in
Cincinnati with my systems engineer on that day.  Please let me know.

Thanks!

Seth

We meet the 3rd Monday of each month.  We would certainly be interested
in hearing about Hibernate3, but we may cover it ourselves soon anyways.

Our membership is pretty much exclusively developers, so I would axe
stuff that isn't focused on that.  I'll be happy to forward your
presentation stuff to our mailing list and let the group speak to
whether they are interested.    My prediction is there would be
interest.

Hey Chris,

Thank you for the quick reply.  I can understand you being hesitant
about vendor presentation but I don't think that I can completely cut
out the business side of things.  For instance, we like to talk about
the history of the company (an open source project in 1999 to full
fledged S1 corp in 2005) as well as our methodology.  I never delve too
deeply into service offerings but a lot of developers find it
interesting to know that we offer professional support, training and
consulting.

Regardless, I would send you the presentation that we plan to use and we

can step through it to see what you like and what you don't.  We can
definitely pull sections and add material if needed.  For instance, I
imagine that some folks in the room would like to hear about Hibernate 3

and EJB 3.

What kind of member base do you have?  Also, when is the monthly
meeting?

I think this could be a great opportunity for both organizations.
Thanks!

Seth

Seth,

I'm actually the one organizing things these days.  Can you send me more

details about what kind of presentation you had in mind?  We're
understandably gunshy of vendor presentations, but a presentation on
JBoss technology might be of interest.  Maybe if you could stick to tech

and ditch the business part of it (I don't think we want to hear details

about your support offerings, for example)?

In any case, I will take it before the group and respond as to what the
interest level is.  We haven't talked about JBoss for awhile, so maybe
it might be high.

Dennis and Mark,

I hope this message finds you and finds you well.  I am writing to
introduce myself as the North Central Region Sales and Support Manager
for JBoss, Inc.  I come from the technical world where I worked as an IT

architect for the past 8 years.

I am extremely interested in working with all of the JUGs in the North
Central Region to understand the people and technology topics of
interest.  In addition, I would like to offer you and the Cincinnati JUG

a JBoss business and technology overview (can be customized if need be)
at one of your next meetings.  The presentation and Q & A afterward
typically lasts about two hours.  We have done this for other JUGs and
the response has been amazing.

Please let me know if you have some time in the next week to discuss.
Thanks!
