After reading my original post I forgot to list an app
server running too, probably WebLogic 8 or 9.
I plan to get 1 gig or ram but anymore than that gets
really pricey.
My biggest hang-up on the Centrino is that for the
price of a 1.6 to 2.0 GHz, I could get a standard
HT 3.0 GHz processor for about the same money. But it
sounds like a Pentium M 1.6 is fairly
comparable in speed to a HT 3.0. Not sure how Intel
pulled that off.

We're not using Centrino, per se (our policy prohibits
wireless devices on
the laptops we order), but we're running Pentium M
1.6GHz laptops with 2GB

a 18,000 class java
app in WebSphere, ClearCase, Lotus Notes, WSAD, DB2,

the disk subsystem is slower than the towers, so
startup times are longer
for the apps, but once they're running, you're good.
We ordered both towers and laptops for some of our
senior guys just because
of that concern, and all of them have pretty much
abandoned the towers due
to the fact that the performance is so similar.
