The Technical Architect is responsible for ensuring that the technical
solution effectively solves the business problem at hand. This includes
responsibility for the configuration, selection, acquisition,
installation, and integration of hardware, system software,
communications components, middleware, and development tools to support
both the future business processes and the systems development
environment. In addition to overseeing the work of team resources, the
Technical Architect may coordinate the activities of technology,
product, and services vendors.
The Technical Architect must possess an unusually broad range of
business and technical skills. Because of the magnitude of knowledge and
experience required for large change programs or extremely complex
system development projects, the responsibilities of the Technical

Basic Qualifications

BUSINESS
Participate in the development of the vision, and specify key
performance requirements
Conduct impact analysis of process redesign on the technical
infrastructure and guide others to understand the impact
Understand and support the business drivers behind successful intranet,
extranet, and e-commerce initiatives
Understand the general capabilities of information technology well
enough to identify opportunities for process redesign and improvement
Design high complexity logical entity models
Provide input in identifying issues and considerations for selecting
business application packages and vendors
MANAGEMENT
Interview and select appropriate resources for the project
Ensure the quality and appropriateness of the work performed by CSC
resources
Ensure the quality and appropriateness of the use of vendors in creating
the solution Coordinate the activities of both technology product and
services vendors
Make/build or buy decisions, or make recommendations to the client that
influence their decision to build or buy
Lead teams of 11 - 20 resources in area of expertise to the successful
completion of projects
Report team status and progress against plans
Identify, track, and present for approval, changes in scope for
activities that impact the team
TECHNICAL
Possess a thorough understanding of the platform technologies in use,
including operating systems, web servers and browsers, application
servers, network protocols, repository and, enterprise application
integration engines, transaction monitors, reliable messaging systems,
object request brokers, and related middleware
Assist in establishing the operational architecture and tools, including
backup/recovery, archive, systems management, network management, help
desk, disaster recovery, middleware, configuration control, and release
management
Familiar with multiple DBMS that run on different platforms
Define, acquire, and implement development, test, production, and
operations environments C
Create performance models and validate performance
Participate in the development of best practice technical architecture
models
